Good Practice Guide and Standards for Plant Attachments
Until now, there has been no single, good practice guide for contractors selecting and using fully compliant crane, excavator and forklift attachments.
The guidance in this document has been created to meet that need by a working group that formed in 2025, made up of senior representatives from a number of Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors. It is a working group of contractors formed to create central guidance for contractors.
The guidance is intended to be an aid for specific groups of professionals:
Health and safety leaders.
Lead appointed persons.
Procurement leaders.
Site operatives (as a reference).
The guidance is intended to assist in ensuring the best selection and specification for the use case that the project requires, and to assist in the correct hire or purchase and use of compliant equipment. Its focus is on risk reduction and risk avoidance in checking equipment ahead of use in general construction projects.
In addition, it will better inform and improve buying and procurement practices to aid the delivery, quality and performance of lifting operations and teams in relation to the selection of fully compliant plant attachments. This will enhance collaboration within the supply chain and the planning and management of safe systems of work.
